Water Fluoridation Update - October 2005

Fluoride to be Added to Local Water Supplies
on November 1, 2005

Midpeninsula Water District (Belmont's water provider) and California Water Co. (San Carlos' water provider) are dependent on the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) to supply fluoridated water to San Carlos and Belmont. Read the original fluoridation notice from September 2005.

The SFPUC's original plan was to add fluoride system-wide in September 2005. However, according to the SFPUC, there was a delay because of a nationwide shortage of fluoride.

The SFPUC web site now states that they have obtained a sufficient supply of fluoride to begin system-wide fluoridation (including water supplied to San Carlos and Belmont) starting November 1, 2005.

As advised by the Health Services Agency of San Mateo, the prescription fluoride supplements for children should be discontinued once the drinking water is fluoridated.
